The end of summer is signaled by long-awaited cooler days. And cooler days means that Saturday Morning Market, is returning with all its great sights and sounds.

Speaking of traveling, last week I had a long flight followed by a drive into the mountains, where I sat in uncomfortable chairs 2 days for a professional seminar. I had purchased a self-inflating seat cushion from Magellans.com. It made all the difference! You can adjust the cushion to make it comfortable even in a coach seat, and totally deflate it to fold into your carry-on bag. It was GREAT on the plane! The cushion also has a cut-out for the tailbone, thus less pressure. Magellan?s also has a low back inflatable support which I tried, and it was the perfect compliment. If you are interested, the seat cushion is Item #IF413, $49.85 and the lumbar pillow Item #IF425, $29.85, both from Magellans.com.

One of my patients made me aware of this new series on The Learning Channel.
"TLC will transform the lives of 13 families across the nation in the groundbreaking new series, Honey We're Killing the Kids! In each family, the children?s eating habits have spiraled out of control into a diet of nonstop junk food ? sugar, snacks, processed food? and huge, oversized portions. Coupled with a lack of exercise and sleep, this lifestyle means the kids are not only hyper and unruly, they are at serious risk of becoming overweight and developing high-blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease."
While I was at the Saturday morning market in St. Petersburg this past Saturday I saw a booth for the Unity Organic Cafe which is located at the First Unity Church of St. Petersburg.
They offer evening pick up of soups, salads, bakery items, and take home dinners as well as specific pick up meal plans.
The church and cafe are located at:
469 45th Ave North
St. Petersburg, FL 33703

For those who haven?t seen it or those who have and want to spend hours more there like myself, I was excited to see that the exhibit had been extended until Septmeber 4th!
The Saturday Morning Market in Downtown St. Pete will be closed on April 1st for the St. Petersburg Grand Prix.
My almost 6 year old daughter lost her first tooth last night. It was an exciting event in our household. She also got her very own pet on Saturday, a guinea pig named Cutie Pie. So this was a big weekend!
I hope you had a fun weekend too.
For anyone who enjoys farmer?s markets the Saturday Morning Market in downtown St. Pete has grown to somewhere around 150 really neat booths and it runs from early October until late May, open from 9:00am until 2:00pm.
I am driving back and my car totally smells of hyacinths and I have chocolate covered strawberries to eat later!
After my second visit to the MOSI ??Bodies?? exhibit, I am still totally recommending this exhibit. It is being held over until April 2nd, 2006.
When we went on our ??field trip?? on February 11th, I was shocked at the long lines. I would highly recommend going during the week or during the after hours times. Even with the crowds multiple people said they got more out of the exhibit by going through it with me. I totally enjoyed it.
Tell me what you think after you go!
I have been wanting to tell you a recent discovery of mine. In the past I have mentioned that Publix carries hormone-free, antibiotic-free beef called Maverick.
More recently I have found that Nature?s Food Patch has organic (and sometimes even grass-fed) ground beef available for about the same price as the Maverick (about $5.99 a pound.) You will find it in the refrigerator section, or sometimes in the freezer. There are different brands, some more expensive than others, so look closely.
This report is a great guide that lists all fresh water lakes in Florida and what is not safe to eat out of each one. It also lists the other fish that are safe to eat in small amounts but may be dangerous in higher quantities.
The last few pages provide the same lists for the salt water fishing areas off our coasts.
I will be soon be posting an article in my Health Article section that deals specifically with levels of mercury in fish but thought this guide, which deals with more then mercury, would be a great asset to our fisherman and their families.
If you are ever wonder about fish you have caught, bring them in for testing and I can tell you if they are safe to eat.
Happy Fishing and Safe Eating!
I was at the Walgreens on the corner of Myrtle and Cleveland and found these really cool water bottles. They are made of the same plastic that the five gallon water bottles are made of (which is #7).
They had ones that carry eight glasses of water and ones that carry four glasses of water for less then $3.99.
The lids are even large enough to wash with a bottle brush making them really reusable!
I bought one for everyone in my family and wanted to pass on such a cool find!
Upcoming Bodies Exhibit ??Field Trip??!
If you would like to join Susan at the "Bodies" exhibit at MOSI (Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry) on Saturday, February 11th, she will be there to answer questions from 1 PM to approximately 4 PM.?
The cost will be $19.95 for adults and $15.95 for children 2-12.? Instead of paying us you will buy your tickets at the MOSI ticket window.? If you have any questions please call us at the office.
I plan on it becoming a place of information, articles, links, and tidbits that I wish everyone knew. I also plan to share some of my favorite spots and things to do in the area.
I will be updating it regularly so please check back often!
